Study programme from 2019

I year of education

In the first year, we offer classes within the general university classes category. The classes we offer at this stage include . Academic teaching, Ethics and Copyright, Methodical teaching workshops. At the same time, in the second semester we introduce elements of interdisciplinary education in the form of the School seminar, Workshop – academic writing in the social sciences (classes to be chosen from the list) and Methodological classes (to be chosen from the list).

The first year is the time for doctoral students to get used to the doctoral school and the time for various organizational issues:

  • since doctoral students have to complete internships, which are part of the study programme, it is necesarry to collect and realize a referral for medical examination;
  • submission of application(s) for the appointment of a supervisor, an additional supervisor or an assistant supervisor (an application for the change of the supervisor can also be submitted throughout the study period);
  • preparation of the Individual Research Plan (IPB) – this document should be prepared together with the supervisor. This is one of the most important documents submitted to the Secretariat, as it describes the work plan for the dissertation;
  • submission of the annual report accounting for the first year of education.

Some of the subjects can be completed within several different semesters. The study programme is designed in such a way that those studying at the doctoral school can arrange their schedule according to their own preferences.

II year of education

In the second year, some elements of general doctoral education remain to be completed (in the form of the School seminar and the course Grant Acquisition). Moreover, classes designed for specific disciplines begin (e.g., in the form of the Discipline seminar). Methodology classes must also be completed (3 courses – a total of 60 hours over the entire education cycle) and specialization classes may be taken (mandatory – 2 courses over 4 years). One of the most interesting elements is an interdisciplinary conference involving all disciplines of the social sciences. It allows you to present your latest research findings to a wide range of specialists and discuss issues related to your dissertation. The second year is also the time to prepare for the mid-term evaluation which takes place after the second year of education. September is the month in which doctoral students submit their annual report and documents required for the mid-term evaluation.

III year of education

During the third year of education, the number of compulsory subjects decreases significantly. The timetable is arranged in such a way that there is more potential time for dissertation preparation in the years III and IV. In the third year, we offer Knowledge transfer, the second round of the interdisciplinary conference and the Doctoral student seminar, during whish doctoral students meet to discuss the research they are conducting, but also the problems they encounter while writing their dissertations. Specialization classes can be taken (mandatory – 2 courses in 4 years). In September, the annual report must be submitted for the third time.

IV year of education

In the fourth year, there are no more compulsory classes, and the programme gives you the opportunity to complete specialization classes and internships (which is possible from the second semester of education). The IV year is entirely dedicated to the final work on the dissertation.
